September 2010 – Colour a Childs Life Decorating Challenge
iCare Challenge:
The last challenge for 2010 involved transforming the living conditions of children and their families in two of London’s most disadvantaged communities – Gipsy Hill and Stoke Newington. Children are reliant on those who care for them to create a safe and nurturing home environment. Sadly, many parents are unable to sustain an appropriate standard for a variety of reasons.
The aim of the challenge was to support these families by transforming their environments in to safe, healthy and colourful homes. The tasks included cleaning, painting and helping with general maintenance – all in order for a couple of rooms to be completely revamped in just one day. The day was hugely beneficial to these less priviliged children and provided them with new rooms and the reassurance that there are people out there who care.
Quotes:
It was a very satisfying and worthwhile day. To be able to help a disadvantaged family was a real privilege.
- Jo Morley, BT Consultant
It was shocking to see how some people have to live in this day and age, and I was just happy to be able to make a small difference – the team was brilliant.
- Susan Treadwell, Head of iCare and Business Travel Consultant
Favourite part: achieving so much in one day and hopefully making a real difference to the family.
