April 2010 – Fordwych House Gardening Challenge.
iCare Challenge:
This challenge was the first of 2010 which involved renovating a garden for Fordwych House in North Wwest London - a centre providing practival help for young people who have behavioural and emotional problems. The challenge involved making raised beds, planting, general garden maintenance, putting up a fence and painting the fence and Wendy House.
The aim of the day at Fordwych House was to provide practical help to ensure that the centre was able to offer an area of sanctuary outside the confines of the house. The house is for Under 16’s with behavioural and emotional problems, who have been referred by local school and care services which is run by The Kids Company.
Quotes:
The whole day was excellent, the reaction of the staff at the centry, they all seemed genuinely moved by our efforts and didn’t expet us to do what we did. I was impressed by how well everyone got on and just mucked in
- Richard Waters, Ticketing
Blooming knackering pulling up that pathway and lugging pathing blocks to and fro was a missions, but thoroughly enjoyable!
- Kesh Patel, OST
The best bit of the day was seeing the reaction from the people who work there when they came out in to the garden. They seemed so surprised and genuinely grateful for that we had managed to do so much in just one day
- Sarah Smith, Training and Development
