January 2011 - Winter Warmer Challenge joint with the RM Christmas Appeal
iCare Challenge:
The first challenge of 2011 was in support of Finsbury and Clerkenwell Volunteers. F&C are a small mainly self funded charity based in the City Road area and the charity provides both practical and emotional support to the elderly in the area via a range of services from telephone befriending to organising shopping trips. Twice a week there is a LunchClub held where ‘clients’ have the opportunity to socialise, have a game of bingo and enjoy a hot meal. As part of this challenge, Reed and Mackay sponsored the ‘Winter Warmer’ at the LunchClub. The day saw the planning and running of an afternoon party for 40 guests, preparing and serving the food, sourcing and supplying the entertainment and co-coordinating the event on the day.
In addition to this challenge, the Christmas Appeal was launched. Money for this appeal was gathered from a raffle at the Winter Warmer, and also frequent cake sales which were held in the Reed & Mackay London office. This money was used to purchase some much needed, elegant new table cloths for the future LunchClubs.
Quotes:
I had a fantastic day...lots of fun! I was proud of our contribution and we all felt the sense of achievement and fulfilment. Excellent team work. The funniest part was Tony calling out the bingo numbers!

It was great the way R&M just came together as a team without the need to discuss or debate, we just got on and did what we had to to make the day a huge success. The best part was when one of the clients (a very elderly and frail lady) held my hand and asked me who I worked for. When I told her, she said with a team in her eye what a great company we are to have done this for them all.
